watch: Oprah's 1986 self love wisdom bomb ❤️ 💣
This blog is a repost from EFF This! Meditation.
Back in December of 1986, Mike Wallace was interviewing Oprah Winfrey about her fledging new national talk show, and pushing her to think about what would happen if it didn't do well. (Uh, thanks Mike?)
Her response is absolutely priceless; a guideline for all of us to use when measuring our own lives.
Transcript:
Mike Wallace:
"So this show that's just getting under way nationally..."
Oprah Winfrey:
"Mm-hm. It's going to do, it'll do well."
Mike Wallace:
"And if it doesn't...?"
Oprah Winfrey:
"And if it doesn't, I will still do well. I will do well, because I am not defined by a show. You know, I think we are defined by the way we treat ourselves and the way we treat other people. You know, it would be *wonderful* to be, you know, an acclaimed as this, you know, talk show host who's made it. That would be WONDERFUL. But if that doesn't happen, there are, you know, other important things in my life. "
S/o to Karl Nova for surfacing and posting this gem to Twitter!
ps The featured image is an edit I had made of a pic I found––of when Hillary Clinton went on the Oprah Winfrey show way back when. I love it so much (I love them both so much!) and I thought it was a great image to illustrate the idea that no matter the outcome of our endeavors, what matters most is still how gentle we can be with ourselves and others. xo Liza
