'fashion's night out' goes digital

Everyone's fave excuse to dress to the nine's, drink too much, and stumble from store to store, Vogue's Fashion's Night Out, will in this, their third year, add digital offerings.

The event, conceived by Vogue's Anna Wintour to counteract the dour effects of the recession, has been a smashing success at cities across the globe. Now, every shopper with access to the internet will get to participate.

life + times

Yesterday, Jay-Z launched his own lifestyle site, "Life + Times". It's foray into various lifestyle elements (Technology, Sports, Style, etc) has gotten it comparisons to Gwyneth Paltrow's GOOP, her site that promotes healthy living. This site already has a lot of edges, as well as a totally different audience.

How do you balance the demands of running a business with your desire to give back?

You're already giving back because you run a business that creates jobs. As an entrepreneur, the most important service you provide to the world is helping your company grow so that you can hire more employees and give them an opportunity to earn a living. To me, giving back isn't about charity. It's about empowerment."

the business of open source

These slides are from a talk I gave at DrupalCon in Washington DC on March 6th, 2009. The basic gist is applying the technical principles of Open Source to business practices. It was really fun to give, and the audience was full of super smart, thoughtful people. The discussion after the talk was cool, and it was great to meet new OS biz buddies as well.
